Gary Patterson and his Horned Frogs football team had their work cut out for them, Saturday. The Frogs played host to the Oklahoma Sooners, a top ten team; a team that had two weeks to prepare. A team that features a quarterback who has the second-best odds of winning the Heisman Trophy.
It seems that the entire Frogs roster is banged up. Here is the recap.
A few ProFrogs heard the calling and headed home for Homecoming.
Jeremy Kerley and family.
Frogs lead the way. Today a Fallen Hero was honored at The Carter.
TCU game captains, Ben Banogu, Ty Summers, Kellton Hollins, and Sewo Olonilua.
The Sooners struck first. CeeDee Lamb caught a 37-yard pass from Kyler Murray. Austin Seibert added the extra point. Sooners went up 7-0 with 9:16 left in the first quarter.
The Sooners broke the rules, with their touchdown celebration, and were penalized.
KaVontae Turpin made them pay. He went 99 yards for the kickoff return touchdown! Do yourself a favor. Hit play on this highlight.
With injuries mounting for TCU, some new players were taking advantage of their new-found opportunity.
The Sooners got on a roll and scored three unanswered touchdowns. They got a 4-yard TD run, 21-yard TD run, and a 9-yard TD pass. Sooners were up 28-7 with 8:25 left to play in the 2nd quarter. Frogs starting quarterback, Shawn Robinson, had a hard time getting the offense going. He completed 3 of 8 passes for 21 yards. Looking for some kind of a spark, Michael Collins was given the keys to the Frogs offense. He wisely got the ball to Turpin, who zig-zagged his way to the end zone making it 28-14.
The sun came out in Ft. Worth. Jalen Reagor beat his man, Collins dropped a dime, and it was a TCU touchdown.
Cole Bunce connected from 41 yards out. Frogs made it a game. Frogs headed to the locker-room 28-24 at the half.
Fans were talking Michael Collins at halftime.
The second half has been the death of TCU all season long. That trend didn’t stop on Saturday. Oklahoma outscored them 24-3 to finish the game. Sooners won 52-27. Kyler Murray had a solid ballgame for Oklahoma.
Here are all seven of the Sooners touchdowns.
Michael Collins ended up being the Frogs leading passer and leading rusher. He completed 7 of 17 passes for 142-yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Collins gained 36-yards on the ground. KaVontae Turpin had 5 catches for 62-yards and 1 touchdown. Jalen Reagor only had one catch; his 33-yard touchdown reception. Ty Summers led all Frog defenders with 10 stops.
The injury bug hit again as Jeff Gladney and Garret Wallow both got banged up. Michael Collins suffered a throwing hand injury. He stayed in the game, but it’s probably safe to say, it negatively affected his throws.
It’s back to the drawing board. The Frogs have four losses but three of those are to top 10 teams. TCU needs to find some rhythm on offense. They need to get healthy fast.
Frogs leave Texas for the first time, this season, next Saturday. They are off to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Kansas Jayhawks.
