TCU's Season Opener Is Davey Day

TCU's Season Opener Is Davey Day

From 1869 to 2017, fifty-two colleges have claimed the College Football National Championship.  The 2018 college football season marks the 80th anniversary of TCU going 11-0 and capturing their second national championship.  It also marks the day that TCU’s quarterback, Davey O’Brien, won the Heisman Trophy.

TCU has named the season opener, against Southern, Davey Day.   Read on to see what is in store for this special day.

For pre-game, a floral arrangement will be placed at O’Brien’s statue in front of the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.

O’Brien’s Heisman Trophy and the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award trophy will be on display for pregame photo opportunities in Frog Alley.  Get into the Carter early to watch the band form a No. 8 on the filed during the pre-game show.  There will also be a special field marking for O’Brien and Davey O’Brien Jr. will be TCU’s honorary captain.

During the game, make sure to check out the players helmets for the sticker honoring O’Brien and watch the video tributes that will be played throughout the game.  If you missed the trophies in Frog Alley, stop by and take a picture with them in the stadium concourse. Replica O’Brien No. 8 jerseys and t-shirts will be on sale.   If you visit the concessions, pick up a No. 8-shaped pretzel produced by Ben’s Pretzels.  Last but not least, you will want to take home a game day program featuring O’Brien.

It’s still July, so you can only imagine what else TCU will come up with between now and then.  See you at the Carter, September 1st, for Davey Day. Go Frogs!
