Former Baylor AD Ian McCaw alleges in a deposition that Baylor University “essentially scapegoated black football players and the football program for being responsible for what was a decades-long, university-wide sexual assault scandal”
Let me just start with this is a wild and almost unbelievable story in every aspect. If it is true then it is another black mark on Baylor and truly a disgusting abuse of power by the Baylor Regents. If it isn’t true then this is just another case of a humiliated executive trying to save face after being disgraced in a very public way.
Whether Ian McCaw can be believed as a credible source is certainly up for debate, but with the overall sliminess of Baylor and the fact that he was hired as the AD of Liberty University just months after leaving Baylor, it leads me to believe that at least some of these claims are not unfounded.
KWTX reported that McCaw alleged a multitude of moral abuses by both the Baylor Regents and the Waco PD. He accuses Baylor of a coordinated conspiracy to blame African American athletes for the campus-wide sexual assault problems, that money was the motivation for the scapegoating, and that multiple officials and agents of the University attempted to coerce him into lying about the issue to the public. He also claims that police former Waco Police Chief Jim Doak “discouraged reporting and systematically buried rape reports, concealed them from McCaw when they involved sports, causing McCaw to only learn of them through ESPN”.
The one thing I am certain of is that this will not be the last of this story. If even half of these accusations are true then this is corruption story comparable to that of Penn State’s and will need to be investigated to the fullest extent. We will continue to keep you updated on this story as it unfolds.
